Couldn’t have asked for a better way to kick off summer than spending Memorial Day weekend out in nature, doing all our favorite things with some of our favorite people.

This past school year was one of major transition for the three of us. Hands down the hardest we’ve ever had, and this weekend brought so much reflection.

This year tested us in ways I never saw coming.

There were moments that felt completely impossible. But somehow, we made it through. And in the process, our bond grew even stronger.

But it wasn’t just our bond that deepened. This year also strengthened our connection with the people who showed up for us. The friends and acquaintances (new and old), and even total strangers who stepped in when we needed it most.

Whether it was helping out with a ride or helping us fix something around the house, those small gestures reminded me just how lucky we are to be surrounded by people who genuinely care.

They reminded me there’s still so much good in this world. And they showed my kids what it looks like to show up for people when they’re going through their hard.

That includes the family we camped with.

Kingston and Lehel have been best friends since first grade. And what I love most about their friendship is that it’s grown slowly and steadily over time. With space for each of them to be their own person.

They don’t talk every day, and our families aren’t always in constant communication, but when we come together, it feels like family.

No pressure. No performing.
Just real authentic connection.

As a mom, there are no words for how grateful I am knowing my son has a second family in theirs.
And over the years, that bond has extended to Scottie and me too.

In a season of life where we’ve lost connections we thought would be forever, and been surprised by others we never saw coming it’s made us realize who the real ones are.

And it’s made connections like Lehel’s family feel sacred.

So here’s to summer…

To fresh starts
To time spent in the places and spaces that ground us
To the people who feel like home

To the REAL ones

Valentine’s has always been one of my favorite holidays, but this year hits different. After 41 years, I am my own Valentine—and I can honestly say, I’ve never been more in love with myself. In the midst of a divorce, after 22 years in a relationship that drained more than it gave, through heartbreak and grief, I stand here knowing EXACTLY who I am. And I have never been more proud.

This message is for the women who find themselves in the same place—the ones who know deep down but aren’t ready to say it out loud yet. The ones who have gaslit themselves into staying, who have made excuses, who have given more than they should have, hoping for change that will never come. I see you. I was you. And I want you to know: you are not crazy. You are not asking for too much. You are not unworthy of the love you give so freely. You are so deserving of receiving that same kind of love in return.

My wish for all of you—for my daughter, for all of our daughters—is that stories like mine teach them that they are the heroes of their own story. That love isn’t about waiting for someone to come along and choose them, to make them feel worthy. It’s about choosing themselves first, about learning to love who they are completely. And then—when the time is right—finding a partner, an equal, someone to share the journey with, not someone to complete them.

I don’t know what the future holds. Maybe someday, I’ll find that kind of love. I believe I will. But until then, I am perfectly at peace being my own Valentine. And beyond grateful for the greatest gifts of my life—my Kingston and my Scottie—who I get to share this journey with💕

Happy Mother’s Day weekend!

I have been incredibly fortunate to know the love and influence of a multitude of incredible women who have had a significant impact in my life (and still do). So it’s no surprise that Mothers Day is one of my most beloved holidays.

Since having kids of my own, one of my favorite ways to celebrate the amazing women in my life is with handmade mementos.

This year the kids and I got to work digging thru our art and craft supplies to send some special keepsakes to our nearest and dearest. I personally love how they turned out and will definitely make them again in the future.

Last week was the week I started to feel burned out...breakfast, lunch, dinner repeat...and don’t forget the snacks. It feels like every time I finish one meal I begin another. There’s more dishes to do than usual, the messes are never ending, and let’s not get started on the fighting🙈 But then it hit me...one day all too soon these kiddos will be gone, leading their own lives, my home will be empty, it will be quiet, and I will give ANYTHING to be quarantined with my babies for just one more day. Perspective. So yeah, if you need me I’ll just be here making lunch for my littles one sandwich at a time.

It’s Tuesday...okay yesterday was Tuesday, but is anyone really keeping track at this point🙈 All I know is Cinco de Mayo is in less than a week and we could all use as much Mexican goodness as we can possibly get until then. Not too shabby for a fridge foraged meal after a big weekend of baking all the things.

Sheet Pan Chicken Apple Sausage with Potatoes and Squash + Braised Cabbage

Here’s what I did...
-Heat oven to 400
-Chop 2 c red potatoes into half inch pieces
-Slice 4 c zucchini and yellow squash down the middle lengthwise, then slice each half into half inch pieces
-Add potatoes and squash to a sheet pan
-Drizzle with 2 tbsp olive oil
-Season with 1 tsp salt, 1 tsp dried marjoram (can sub dried thyme or oregano), 1/2 tsp pepper, and 3 cloves minced garlic (I actually prefer to use my microplane and grate it over the top)
-Use your hands to toss the veg on the pan and make sure it’s evenly coated in the oil and spices.
-Spread the potatoes and squash out on the sheet pan in an even layer and make sure all the pieces are laying flat
-Lay 8 chicken apple sausages on top of vegetables
-Transfer pan to the oven to cook for 35-45 minutes or until potatoes are browned and cooked thru, turning sausages after 20 minutes or halfway through the cooking time
-Remove from the oven and season with additional salt if needed and fresh parsley

For the Cabbage
-Slice 1/2 of a green cabbage into 1/2 inch thick slices, drizzle each side with olive oil and season with salt and pepper
-Heat 1-2 tbsp olive oil in a large skillet over medium high heat
-Add cabbage to the skillet laying flat so that so that the surface of each piece is making contact with the pan. The pan will be crowded but it will shrink as it cooks
-Cook for 1-2 minutes or until bottom begins to brown
-Add 1/4-1/2 c chicken broth to pan. Cover and reduce the heat to medium low
-Cook for 15-20 minutes or until the liquid has evaporated and the underside of the cabbage is browned

I highly recommend serving with course grain mustard🤩

To cook...Add ‘lil goodies to a skillet with 1/4-1/2 c. water, broth, or your favorite beer
